2010 University of Connecticut School of Law Graduate, Erin O’Leary, Joins Suisman Shapiro As Its Newest Attorney

Erin O’Leary recently joined Suisman Shapiro as an associate, and will begin her practice in the area of personal injury law. Erin received her B.S., magna cum laude, in Business Administration from the University of Richmond in 2007, and her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School Of Law in 2010. She was admitted to the bar in Connecticut this November, and is pending admission to the Massachusetts bar.

During law school, Erin participated in a Criminal Trial Clinic as a Certified Legal Intern, representing and appearing in court under attorney supervision on behalf of low-income criminal defendants who did not qualify for the public defender. She was also a law clerk for the Inmates’ Legal Assistance Program in Hartford, performing legal research and writing on a variety of civil matters pertaining to the conditions of confinement of state inmates. Erin was the Symposium Editor for the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal. She was a 2009 winner of the Alva P. Loiselle Moot Court Competition and ranked as a Top Ten Best Oralist in the John J. Gibbons National Moot Court Competition. Additionally, Erin was the winner of the Hon. M. Joseph Blumenfeld Award for outstanding advocacy for indigent clients. Her recent article, “Predatory Lending and Its Insurance Implications,” was published in The Connecticut Insurance Law Journal in the spring of 2010.

While earning her Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Richmond, Erin rowed on the Crew team all four years and was a Captain in 2006-07. She was also a member of the Equestrian Team from 2003-2005. She participated in the Ethics Bowl, a Virginia competition testing undergraduate reasoning in practical and professional ethics; the team was named State Champions in 2007.

Erin spent a semester studying at the Institute Formation Internationale in Rouen, France, in 2005. She speaks both French and Spanish. Erin currently resides in Mystic, Connecticut.
