Free health screenings. A childrens’ wellness trail. And a lavish display of foods, all of which promise to be healthy choices.

This year’s seventh-annual Healthy Habits Showcase at the Mohegan Sun offers a broad array of healthy offerings at the free expo, said Dave Quinn, one of the organizers, and he expects the Sunday, Oct. 24, event will attract several thousand to the Uncas Ballroom.

The showcase, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is presented annually by the Mohegan Tribal Health Department, The Day Publishing Co. and Quinn & Hary Marketing, of which Quinn is a principal.

Quinn said this year’s expo includes free health screenings, a Kidz Safety & Wellness Trail and more than 75 exhibits. The event also will feature a women’s personal safety demonstration and massage therapy. Medical professionals will be available to answer questions about weight loss, back pain, home health-care options and other medical concerns.

Seasonal flu shots will be available from Walgreens Pharmacy at the expo for adults 18 years or older for a small charge.

Quinn said the Tri-Town Healthy Foods Pavilion at the expo will offer various pastas, juices and coffees. In addition, 18 food purveyors will be on hand with samples of their wares. Chefs from the Mohegan Sun will prepare appetizers, nutritious entreés and low-fat desserts.

Those attending this year, said Quinn, are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the annual food drive at the expo sponsored by Tri-Town Foods and the Suisman Shapiro law firm in New London. Collection bins for the food drive to benefit the needy will be at the entrance to the 40,000-square-foot Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun. The donations, said Quinn, will be distributed to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center in New London.

This year’s sponsors for the Healthy Habits Showcase include The William W. Backus Hospital; Children’s Dental Associates; Lawrence & Memorial Hospital; Walgreens Pharmacy; Pfizer Inc.; Tri-Town Foods; Suisman Shapiro Attorneys at Law; United Community & Family Services, and the Hall Radio Group.
