Trial Lawyers Care: Matthew Shafner Remembers Joshua Piver

Today we mark the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Attorney Matthew Shafner delivered a very moving presentation to Suisman Shapiro staff explaining his pro bono work for Trial Lawyers Care. Attorney Shafner represented the family of 23 year-old Joshua Piver from Stonington, Connecticut, who had been recently hired by Cantor Fitgerald and worked on the 105th floor of Tower One. Josh lost his life on September 11, 2001, along with almost 3,000 other Americans.
Trial Lawyers Care (TLC) is the largest pro bono legal program ever undertaken with at least 1,000 volunteer attorneys representing more than 1,500 victims in 35 states and 11 countries who have chosen to make claims under the government's September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. The organization was created by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) in conjunction with state trial lawyer associations. To learn more about TLC, click here.
The Mystic Chamber of Commerce will hold its Business After Hours tonight at the Mystic Aquarium. In honor of the anniversary of September 11th, all proceeds from this evening will be donated to the Joshua Piver Memorial Scholarship Fund managed by the Mystic Chamber Foundation, which awards a scholarship to a student from Stonington High School each year.
