Can you work if you accept Social Security Disability?

Social Security Disability (SSD) is there for people who get hurt and can no longer work to support themselves. These individuals may be able to work a light amount, but it would be impossible, in many cases, for them to work a full-time job.

Disability benefits provide the protection people need when they're disabled. The benefits provide a monthly check that covers basic necessities, like a place to live. Combined with other benefits, like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other government programs, people on disability have what they need to live a financially supported life while recovering.

Not all disabilities are forever, and the Social Security Administration (SSA) realizes this. As a result, the administration came up with the Ticket to Work Program. This program helps you obtain training and services that you might need to go back to work. Most people who have disabilities are eligible to participate in this program, which makes it possible to consider going back to work in specialized positions.

If you do decide to return to work, you won't normally lose your benefits. Instead, they may be adjusted until you no longer need them. In the case that you cannot continue to work, your benefits can normally be reinstated in full.

It's a good idea to talk to a professional about the Ticket to Work program and other opportunities open to you if you receive SSD. The right choice now can make a major difference in your life in the future. It's everyone's goal to get you to a position of financial security, health and happiness.
