What information do you need after a personal injury?

| May 23, 2019 | Personal Injury

After you get hurt by another person, there is some information you should collect. Every situation is going to be a little bit different, but for the most part, you’ll want to reach out to get the at-fault party’s name and identifying information. If they’re driving, you should obtain their vehicle information and license number if possible.

If you’ve been involved in a crash, then you’ll want to ask for the person’s insurance. If they will not give you information or do not have it, tell the police when they arrive and allow them to intervene. If you can, take photos of the scene of an accident where injuries were involved as well as photos of the actual injuries themselves.

What information should you get from the hospital?

After you go to the hospital, you should ask for copies of all medical documentation associated with your visit. You will also want to make copies of any billing information you receive.

This documentation can all be passed on to your attorney, so they can have information to use when negotiating a fair settlement for you. The more information you have, the better chance there is of a greater settlement being awarded to you. Having photos and proof of the injuries impacting your daily life will further support any claims you make.

If you are hurt, remember that your attorney is there to handle your claim while you focus on your health. You deserve time to heal and focus on the changes that are happening in your life as a result of these injuries.
