Connecticut files suit over illegal asbestos transfer station

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral. Natural doesn't always mean safe, though. This mineral has been linked to several kinds of illnesses including mesothelioma, asbestosis and others. If it's on a property illegally, it must be cleaned up for the safety of those around it.

Here's an interesting story about Connecticut filing a lawsuit over an illegal asbestos site. The attorney general filed a motion of contempt against a man in Madison because he claimed that the man had an illegal asbestos transfer station held at his property.

The man had previously been told to remove asbestos waste from the property and to pay $32,000 in fines. The man did not pay the fine or cease operations after that 2014 case.

The Connecticut attorney general argued that the site is a threat to the public's health and to the surrounding environment. Included with the motion of contempt are notes showing that the department had worked hard to force the property owner to comply with the law. In 2011, the man agreed to remediate the site. He didn't, which resulted in the 2014 action in court and the current 2019 action.

Asbestos is a real danger to the environment and the people who are around it. It can lead to cancer and several other serious diseases. If you are exposed to it by someone who is using it illegally or develop an asbestos-related disease, then you may be able to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for the injuries that you've suffered. This is a highly dangerous mineral, so it needs to be treated with respect.
