Attorney Michael V. Sage Receives CALI Excellence Award From University of Connecticut School of Law

Attorney Michael V. Sage of Suisman Shapiro Attorneys at Law has received the CALI Excellence Award for class performance (given to the student with the highest class grade) in “Current Issues and Trends in Insurance Litigation,” a class which is part of the Insurance Law Masters Degree (LL.M) curriculum at the University Of Connecticut School Of Law.

The Insurance Law LL.M is unique to UCONN Law; the student body consists mostly of practicing lawyers in the insurance field both locally and across the country. Insurance Litigation, as the course is known, was taught collaboratively by three leaders in the industry including John Buchanan of Covington & Burling, Charlie Fortune of Day Pitney and Bill Goddard of Bingham McCutchen.

Students were evaluated based on their performances in a week-long negotiation exercise involving multiple insurance carriers subject to a shared multi-million dollar loss, and an 8-hour final exam which assessed the student’s knowledge and understanding of modern coverage disputes, ongoing insolvency litigation stemming from the recent financial crisis and arbitration provisions in reinsurance treaties.

Attorney Sage is in his fourth year of practice and handles insurance, injury and commercial litigation primarily on behalf of plaintiffs and policyholders.
