Suisman Shapiro was honored with the Pro Bono Partnership Award at the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center’s (CVLC)15th Annual Saluting Service event at the Canal Dock Boathouse in New Haven on November 7th. Suisman Shapiro Attorney Kristi Kelly attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
“The Pro Bono Partnership Award is presented to an individual or firm who have shown an exemplary commitment to ensuring veterans in Connecticut receive excellent legal services through a gift of their time and talent,” the event program stated.
This year, Suisman Shapiro donated space to CVLC within their office building in downtown New London, CT. This space was established in the memory of one of the firm’s most dedicated pro bono attorneys, the late Matthew E. Auger (USNR). The CVLC’s Captain Matthew E. Auger USNR Office in New London is open by appointment Monday through Friday.
Attorney Kelly was also presented with a proclamation by The Honorable Rosa L. DeLauro of Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District stating, “with heartfelt congratulations and my deepest thanks for your invaluable work on behalf of our veterans and their families, ensuring their access to the programs, services, and benefits they earned and rightly deserve.”
About Saluting Service
Each year the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center comes together to celebrate Veterans Day by honoring those impacting the lives of Connecticut Veterans. They also use this as an opportunity to raise funds and celebrate the ongoing work of ensuring that all who served in the U.S. Military have access to justice and the resources they need to overcome legal barriers to housing, healthcare, income, and recovery. Saluting Service draws a diverse audience of individuals from across the legal, military, veteran, healthcare, and philanthropic communities.
