Steps to take after a car wreck

| Nov 23, 2018 | Personal Injury

Some people mistakenly think that a fender-bender isn’t capable of causing any injuries. Even if there isn’t major damage to the vehicles, there is a still a chance that you might suffer some injuries. There are several things that you should do after a car wreck.

One of the first things that you need to do is to check yourself and the occupants of your vehicle for injuries. If there are injuries, you need to ask for emergency medical services to come to the scene. This can get hurt individuals the care they need as quickly as possible.

A police officer will also come out to the accident scene. You will have to give a statement about what happened. When you are speaking to them, make sure that you aren’t making any comments that make it seem like you are taking responsibility for the accident. You don’t want to admit fault or even say anything that could be misconstrued as such.

There is a chance that you will be able to snap a few pictures of the accident scene. If this is possible, try to get a picture of the damage on the vehicles and the surrounding area. This helps you to show what happened if you decide to seek compensation.

When you are able, write out everything that you can remember about the accident. This includes the conditions at the time of the crash, as well as any details, even minor ones, that you can remember. Jotting these notes down as soon as possible ensures that everything is fresh in your mind.

You should base any claim for compensation on facts. The way you do this can have an impact on your case, so be sure you are prepared.
