Summer weather hazards create threats in New London

On Behalf of | Jul 24, 2019 | Personal Injury

There are many times when people may suffer personal injuries. One is in a car crash. Car crashes are among the most common causes of injury in the United States, and they’re even more likely to occur in an area that is experiencing severe weather.

Take for example the series of storms that passed through New London on July 22. The severe weather resulted in power outages and severe thunderstorms that put drivers in a bind. With heavy rains and winds that were up to 35 mph, it’s no wonder that there were collisions and trouble on the Interstate 95 corridor. Additionally, flash flooding added to the threats on the road.

Summer weather is a threat to drivers, so you have to be safe

Summer weather is a major threat to drivers. Why? They may be caught up in the storm suddenly, and they might not be prepared. With torrential downpours, drivers have to move slowly and should use their hazard lights. Not using lights or traveling too quickly for the conditions can build up into the perfect conditions for a collision.

What should you do if you’re caught in a thunderstorm or other severe weather?

The best thing to do is to pull over and to get inside somewhere safe. For example, if you’re near an exit on the highway, you may want to take it and stop at a nearby gas station or restaurant. That way, you’ll be able to get out of the rain and wait out the severe conditions somewhere safe.

If you’re hit by another vehicle in a severe storm, the authorities may have trouble getting to you quickly. Remain where you are and wait unless the conditions are life-threatening. When you are able, find out more about your potential right to compensation for your injuries.
